Here Kate and Aiden play with their favourite person, Uncle Randy These photos show a very active Kate at 3am, suddenly deciding she was feeling well again after another ear infection. Luckily for her mother there was PayTV available and if you look carefully in the corner of the first picture, you can see a liver transplant being filmed. Oblivious to this wonder of modern medicine, young Kate is busy dressing herself, sweeping the floor and stacking cans. Mother is remembering, misty-eyed, the times when she would be allowed to sleep through a whole night without so much as hint of being awoken.......

Upon her return she became very upset and agitated so we headed out onto the hospital balcony.

Kate was a lot happier being able to play on the balcony.

Sunday April 20th

21 months

It's been a while between updates. Kate survived her ear surgery and I must say I was a bit non fussed about this one. I knew it was a minor procedure and we (I) had survived Aiden's big surgery so I was OK. Kate arrived back from theatre quite upset, screaming the place down. I was exhausted trying to carry her around and cheer her up. Eventually we went outside and watched the traffic. She seems a lot more vocal and energetic since the surgery. She is talking more.

On the topic of speech I find it interesting that, on the whole, they say the same words. I know it's a twin thing. They use "more" for everything they could want. Mummy needs to pass the ball? "More." Want a different book? "More." I am starting to say "please" in the hope they will soon mimic.

It's funny how your life changes when you have kids. I was at the gym the other day and in the midst of my situps I unconsciously was casing the place to see how child proof it is. I noticed the uncovered power outlets, the small knicknacks that had found their way onto the floor, ready to be choked on. It was a short while before I realised I was doing it and then I realised I do it everywhere I go. A quick scan of the premises.

Kate's a total livewire. She loves jumping all over me, running around, bossing us all and chattering away. Her enthusiasm is quite contagious and she has a wicked sense of humour. Her great love at the moment is Easter eggs (funnily enough).

Aiden is quiet and focused. He loves nothing more than to be given the opportunity to sit and play with puzzles, magnets and other toys. He will play for ages and has an amazing ability to concentrate on the task at hand. Aiden won't even try chocolate, if it ain't egg, potato or bread he isn't interested.

They're chalk and cheese but luckily they really love each other.

Life's good!
